There are NAS products with intel i3 products but these can be more than double in price than its Atom counterpart. This is the standard CPU running in most mid to high end NAS products these days and is the fastest Intel atom currently available. The DS1813+ runs on a dual core Intel D2700 CPU running at 2.13GHz with 2gb memory which is upgradable to 4gb. The DS1813+ can replace a windows server for some businesses providing mail, file, DHCP, webmail, DNS, VPN and user access server functions. Small business these days spend alot of money on windows servers and only use a few of the features because that is all they need. It is aimed at the Small and Medium Business with more features than you can poke a stick at. The DS1813+ gives a massive 72TB of storage with Synology DX513 expansion units. This is the big brother to the Synology DS1513+. Synology have just released the DS1813+ with 8 bays.
